We live in the part of the world where frustration and
agitation is at its peak; poverty, corruption and injustice grow day by day. Engulfed
in this distressful situation, there are moments when one needs to let out dissatisfaction
and anger that accumulates inside. Sure you can go ahead and burn a few tyres
in the streets, go about breaking other people’s vehicles, shops or generators.
But why resort to such violence when there is a better way: write it all out. “Writing
is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write,
compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and
fear which is inherent in a human situation” (Graham Greene).
The people in our
country have not yet realized the value of writing, actually they avoid it. Well
to be honest, even I didn’t know its importance until a few months ago. For one
thing writing is time consuming and we are a nation in quite a hurry. In a
hurry for what? Only God knows! But the point is, we don’t have time to write. Another
thing being we don’t read enough. My professor told me that to be a good writer
you must be in good contact with the language, at least read 40 pages each day of
an English book. The more you read the better writer you become, and this I am
saying through my personal experience.
I myself am fairly new to this task of writing, and the best
way I see to improve my skills is through my blog. The more I write about how I
feel the more I am at peace from inside. And if we have the power of writing at our hands
we have the power to influence the minds and to make ourselves heard.
